I too have a 9000 64mb (not pro) and have exactly the same problems. I've tried updating all drivrs and this had no effect. I tried rolling back the drives and still sme problem. I tried reinstalling to a new location and still same problem. All other games work fine and i dont want to have to format just to get eve to work
Any1 got any other solutions?

Well I tried all the above. I just dont knwo where to turn off fastwrite (does the radeon 9000 have this feature? if so where can i find it?)
I still cannot start up EVE. I have VPU recover turned off at the moment so now when i start i get a device ailure error and the display is in 4bit mode and very low resolution. However i can still hear the music in the background. I can only get back to normal through a restart.
I've also tried running it in different compatabilty modes (95, 98, 2000) but this hasmnt had any effect.

thats a different problem to what is being duscussed in this thread. We cant actually get to the login screen...
Update: I have now formatted and reinstalled windows, updated everything and EVE still does not work. Before I installed drivers etc I installed EVE and tried ot run it but after the screen with the armageddon another eve opens in the system tray but does nothing, even when i clicked it. Now, after all drivers are installed, My screen just turns off and stays off as if it were on stand by...
Any found anything that may sort out this problem yet?

Im not sure about CPU. but that really makes no difference.
I hav 1 512mb DDR333 module in at the moment. I have 2 more 256mb DDR266 which i use some times.
Personally i think there is some compatability problem with the radeon 9000 as most of the people with the problem have them.

Well doesnt seem there is any way to solve this issue.....other than to get a new graphics card which might not even work
I hope they catch onto what the problem is and put a fix out

well I removed my graphics drivers and installed the latest drivers released on wednesday (10th) And i no longer get a device failure or VPU recover message, but the screen still flickers on and off. I can see a picture with EVE written in large letters with second genesis or osmething underneath. After the screen goes off and comes back on the EVE has rotated slightly (as if the screen going on and off is one frame). I believe this is the background of the EULA, but on my screen this is not displayed.
This is very annoying!

Edited by: Pan Jin on 12/03/2004 21:42:31 I already tried that...with no effect.
In my opinion its definatly a conflict with the radeon 9000 series
Has any1 got a link to where I can download some older version drivers from? Ones that have been known to work with this card?

Ive got eve to work!
Wat I did was use the remove tool from www.ati.com and then downloaded the catalyst 4.1 drivers from the site. I removed all ATI drivers and software with the tool and then reinstalled fresh 4.1 drivers.
Works a treat :D
